The Head of Volunteer Projects supervises, assists, and advises the volunteer project teams from the initial idea to the final report, guiding them through all the proper steps and helping them record their work and recruit new members. He also serves as liaison between them and the national board of Project Coordinators of EWB, sending them monthly reports, requests and questions, and participating in the decision-making process.
The first duty of the HVP is incubation: helping start new projects. Most often, a local non-profit organization in the countries we help has a specific need: clean water for a hospital, electric power for a school, a waste disposal system for a rural community.
Your job, in the incubation phase, is to make sure that the project idea is developed into a project proposal that fits the standards of Engineers Without Borders. That means clear, tangible deliverables, to be met at specific deadlines, with a pre-defined budget, the local partners that will benefit from it, and the backers who will fund it. You make sure that everything is rigorous, clean, and above board, and that everyone is well-informed on what to expect, and what is expected of them.
Once a project gets going, you will make sure that, at minimum, they update you once a month with their reports, which you will relay at the national meeting of Project Coordinators, your counterparts in all other regional divisions of EWB. You will also relay to them your teams’ doubts, concerns, needs, or any questions they might have. At all times, you will help the teams maintain the standards of quality of EWB, especially when it comes to documenting their work and organizing it, and communicating and dealing with outside groups, be it local partners or benefactors.
In addition you will be part of the growing Board group at the Malmö branch of EWB (Sweden). Here you will be part of setting the direction of the group for the next period. We are a stable group with many volunteers in the working life and seek someone who is considering a more long-term focus on their engagement within our group.
Look forward meeting you!
